Российское суеверие: На свадьбе гости кричат: "Горько!"
Это древний обычай, точное происхождение которого неизвестно. Возможно гости не хотели сглазить молодоженов, потому и кричали: "Горько!". В таком случае злые духи считали, что всё итак плохо, и уходили.
Может быть обычай произошёл от свадебной игры. Свадьбы обычно играли зимой, чтобы они не мешали сельскохозяйственным работам. Во дворе делали большую ледяную горку. На горке стояла невеста, а её подружки защищали её. Жених с друзьями пытался добраться до невесты под крики "Горка". Добравшись до вершины, жених целовал невесту, а его друзья - её подружек. Потом слово "Горка" превратилась в слово "Горько".
Есть ещё один возможный вариант. Невеста брала поднос с чаркой напитка и обходила гостей. Гости клали на поднос подарочные деньги и пила напиток из чарки. В чарке должна быть водка, что подтверждалось словами "Горько!". После этого гость целовал невесту. Если гость не давал деньги, то он просто пил водку и говорил "Горько", но не целовал невесту. В наши дни гости просто кричат "Горько", а молодожены целуются. Этот обычай распространён не только в России.

On the hill stood the bride and bridesmaids defended her. The groom with his friends tried to get to the bride while the guests shouted "Hill" (Gorka). Reaching the top , the groom kissed the bride, and his friends - her bridesmaids. Then the word "Hill" (gorka) has evolved into the word "bitter" (gorko).
There is also one more possible scenario. Bride took a tray with a cup of vodka drink and went to each guests. Guests put on a tray gift money and drank a drink from goblets. In cup be vodka, which was confirmed by the words "bitter" (gorko). After this guest kissed the bride. If a guest did not give the money, he just drank vodka and said "bitter", but did not kiss the bride. Nowadays guests just shout "bitter" (gorko) and the couple kisses. This custom is prevalent not only in Russia.
